Wanna play?

Something tells me that Jordan will win all "matches...!" (Rules, although written down, are often subject to in-game revision!)

Yassos! Yasso 800's x6 at 3:55 Marathon Pace.

    Whoa.

    3:43
    3:44
    3:45
    3:43
    3:47
    3:46

400 Meter recovery in between repeats, warmup before, cool-down after.

    Whoa.

Feelin' it, but in a good way.(I think...!) Shins were tight on first one, really didn't notice them after that. Re-configured my Garmin display to show current pace and lap time on one screen. That worked well for me, as I was able to get a good read on both my pace and total time througout. Kept it pretty consistent except for the last one, where I had to kick it in to beat 3:55. I was cashed on the front side, had some time to make up on the back side!

Sure hope I'm getting some benefit from these. Supposedly if I can work up to 10 of them at 3:55 or under, I'll be able to run a <4 marathon. Sounds so so SO good in theory...

  • Sure, nobody likes taxation, but the way things are now, most people have to file them. If you know somebody who has to file, and can't afford to, I found a way we can give them some help. Listen in to learn about how you can help the people you know about, and even some people who you *don't* know about.

  • Post-race shin-icing!

    View from "Start Corral B."

    Pre-race meet-up.

    GREAT Race, bad GPS managment!

Upon finishing, thought that I had run this one MUCH faster than what the official results showed (ie, what I actually DID run it...!) Apparently, when your Garmin loses signal (ie, under a city underpass, when passing between large buildings!) , it activates the "auto pause" feature. Sounds obvious in hindsight, but it wasn't something I considered before the race .It's a feature that's easy enough to disable, but...well, I didn't. Feh. By looking at the map, you can tell exactly where it lost signal and "auto-paused." For those segments, my watch stopped, and I was "off" by that amount of time.

I missed my goal time, but was still well within striking distance of it. Truth be told, I feel I could have pushed myself and hit it, had I been able to see correct data. I'll never know though...! Still, happy with my time. Would have been happy with it , had I been tracking it correctly throughout. 8:00 (ish!) miles are HAULING for me, especially when training for a marathon!

LOVED my Corral B start. (Obtained via my qualifying time from 2009 Freedom Celebration 5k!) Wow. It was crowded for miles 1-3, but fast-crowded. Tight, but didn't slow me down. Did not have to weave in and out of peeps to maintain my pace. In hindsight, could have even pushed it comfortably, crowd-wise. PLUS, an un-epected bonus was the aid stations... Starting that close to the front, they were barely used, and not as "littered" and messy as usual! (Same think with the Finisher's Chute! Kind of like getting to Disneyland and beating the crowds...practically had the place to myself!) Fun seeing how the"other half" lives! Kind of like flying First Class! I need to continue to qualify for Preferred Starts for big races!

I'm keeping the mile / lap splits from my watch on the dump (mostly because I'm not entirely sure how to change / over-ride them!) but here are my official mile splits:

    8:01
    8:15
    8:29
    8:09
    8:05

GREAT race, FUN meet-up with OUTSANDING peeps. Love it.

Looking forward to pushing on to IL Thon on 5/1!

1st go at Yasso 800's. I know that I can benefit from speedwork, but have never really given it a go. I've known about Yasso 800's for over a year, mostly from @oblivion and Runner's World articles, online mentions.

LOVE the super-simple nature of them. Here's a good description of the workout: http://tinyurl.com/yca42ew (Also via @oblivion!)

My goal this morning was to see if I could do 4 of them at 3:55 (thus pacing for a 3 hour 55 minute marathon!) , with the plan of working up to 10 of them 10 days out from the 5/1 IL Marathon.

    Whoa.

    Warmup: .55 mi @9:53/mi, 5:26 Total

    Yasso 1: .5 mii @7:29/mi, 3:44 Total

    Recovery: .29 mi @9:18/mi, 2:41 Total

    Yasso 2: .5 mi @7:29/mi, 3:44Total

    Recovery: .29 mi @9:28/mi, 2:46 Total

    Yasso 3: .5 mi @7:32/mi , 3:45 Total

    Recovery: .3 mi @9:23/mi, 2:48 Total

    Yasso 4: .5 mi @7:36/mi, 3:47 Total

    Cooldown: .46 mi @10:01/mi, 4:34 Total

I was pretty wiped on the last one. Hard to tell how much I still "had left" , if anything. Probably not much. I'm not so much concerned with adding any speed to these, as they were all well under the 3min 55sec target... Just need to add MORE of them!

It was fun running on the track in the early-AM. There were 3 other guys there, all running similar (if not identical) repeat cycles.

    Hmm...perhaps there's something to this...

  • The boys and I and the Mrs. are all off on vacation. So, I let them help me put together tonight's show. They even hunted down some information to share about the place where we're staying, The Great Wolf Lodge in the Poconos.

What a difference a day makes! Out the door EARLY for this one. Empty stomach, except for a half a cup a coffee. Got rained on a bit, but nowhere near as bad as yesterday. Didn't concentrate too much on pace, just on covering the miles. Forgot how painful yet good 18 miles feels. GREAT route, VERY happy with my time, mostly happy with the fact that I was able to get the miles in after such a catastrophic failure yesterday. Again, what a difference a day makes! Ready for another great running week, then Shamrock Shuffle on Sunday! Woot!
